There's a little drama thrown in with the Duke's secret about his best friend and Verity's sister, but it's resolved in like three pages □♀️. Thank you very much.Īnyway, the entire book is very la-de-da. Yes, I know adult men often married children back then, but I'd prefer that kept out of my romances. Honestly, I was pretty much over this pairing from the beginning, when the Duke mentions that he think she looks 16 and then proceeds to proposition her. Verity is a child, she acts like a child, and she's one-dimensional like a child. Sorry, but I just can't stand the perfectly perfect super sweet sunshine characters like this. Which of course, would never really have happened in that time period, but whatever.Īnyway, her sister basically mentally checks out and Verity takes on the majority of the childcare because of course she does.and takes in another 10 year-old orphan too because she is obviously the best, sweetest, most selfless girl in the world. She is disowned by her family when she decides to go with her sister to help her raise her son. Verity is the younger sister of a woman who "anticipated her marriage" and ends up pregnant.
